What made us transition from a elegant home in the city to a piece of work in rural NY.
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2:17 (KJV)
Recap on the day of closing
45 minuets behind schedule I'm on the I-84 doing 15 over the speed limit (I'm not proud or boasting just reflecting) . Trying to make up for lost time. In between swerving between lanes it pretty surreal to see that we have made it to this point. We've been praying and fasting and looking. Arguing, and talking to argue again just to leave it at the Lords feet on where he will will the next portion of this family lives. We've read several books and studies on the benefits of county living (A good one I highly recommend is once simply titled "Country Living" by Ellen White) and slowly but surly we were ready to make the move (Ann of course as always gun ho while I'm dragging and screaming. The closest thing to country life for me was Prospect Park in Brooklyn New York)
Life Changed At Camp-meeting
I blame facebook. Ann Marie and her adventitious self found a camp meeting invitation to one week camp meeting in Main at a campground called camp baptist for 25.00 for the whole week! Now you know the saying if it's too good to be true then it isn't and in some cases it wasn't (please remember I was a city bumpkin the closest thing to roughing it was the Holiday Inn). But it truly was a ministry administered by Carabu Seventh Day Adventist Church. The people we met was diverse and from all across the country, the food was very nutritious (and delicious on certain days but we did't come there for the 5 star meal), and the word of God was transparently clear. In a nut shell the event was beautiful. One of the common theme I realized was that most of the people have lived in areas were outside, uncontrolled influence was minimal and only experience they choose. Yes most of them lived a country life and it was interesting but I don't do gun ho, I do calculated steps
Bringing the county to the city
Coming back from camp meeting I had some plans to bring what I experience in Maine and bring it back to CT. I mean I can't see why I couldn't mix the two. Jesus wanted us to be in the city didn't he. I was on a quest to find out what was a biblical perspective on how we should live. Here is what I discovered.
A more rural environment provides less outside influences infiltrating our home.
A rural environment gives more land at a lower price than in heavily populated areas.
Country Living provides way more space to grow our own food and grow the raw ingredients needed for the business.
The cheaper cost of living provides a stress environment and will provide more time for us to train up our children int the way that they should grow so that when they grow old they would not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6)
Living in an environment closer to nature strengthens one's relationship with God (Luke 4 :11, Matt 3:1, Matt 26:36-46, Gen 2:4 -3:24, Exodus 3 to name a few)
At this point it was evident that country living is the the place for this family at this junction of our live. Every encounter; Going to several camp meetings, moving to a smaller city, trying to turn the house into a cabin home in the woods, even marrying my wife was all leading me (leading us) to this juncture.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.Romans 8:28 King James Version (KJV)
I head down the I87 N with confidence in our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the will of The Father that we will be ok and we will have his blessing. The house needs a lot of work but we know he will see us through.
If you are in a juncture in your life and it seems like the task/ situation is too great put your trust in the Lord. Remember He works out EVERY THING for the good! Even you struggles, set backs, and short comming can be worked out for your good and His Will! MOVE IN FAITH!!
