As the new year hits many of us do it. You know what it is, New Year’s resolution. Whether you admit it openly or lie to yourself and do it privately we all utilize the new year to start/restart our goals desires and ambitions. For some it can be losing weight, be a better parent, starting a business (wink, wink), crushing your debt (wink, wink, wink ;-) it is something we strive towards but for some, quickly fall to the waist side. Coming from a workaholic procrastinator, here are some simple tips that’s has worked tremendously for me. With our further Adue here they are.
GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
SET GOALS
BOOK IT BEFORE IT'S COMPLETED REMEMBER THE IMPACT OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING DEVELOP A TECHNIQUE OF SELF ENCOURAGEMENT
GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
Somebody like a spouse, family member or friend. You want this person in your corner to be a go-getter and will continually hold you accountable for executing your goal. Someone that will check on you to make sure you keep reaching that goal. Step by step, inch by inch tell they seen that you have spread your wings and are able to can fly with minimal assistant/ harassment. Please don’t pick a person Just because you like them. If they’re passive and procrastinators themselves it won’t be any good for you. You both just be sitting there with a whole bunch of Ideas just waiting for that day to come to pursue what God has planned for you. It may never happen if neither of you is motivated enough to push that idea to reality.
Go-getters who are in your corner not only will remind you but will repetitively with the sense of urgency push you into working on your goal. It has for my case (My wife "motivates" me so much it's borderline harassment, but it has borne many fruits of success and something that feels like two close aneurysms). Remember in your choice It’s not about favoritism it’s about results.
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 KJV
SET GOALS
I would outline my list of ideas to accomplish/ tasks for the week usually Saturday night/ Sunday, putting Asterix on my list in google task or note pad in order to highlight my priority of tasks. In my life, there are two ways I've have set out my goals. 1 type was outlining my goals to specific timeframes for every day. I mean down to the millisecond. The second was to have a general overview of the task that they would like to accomplish for the day/week. Either is fine. For me, I do the latter. Balancing work, life and everything else in between If makes holding task to minuet can be discouraging. So I outline my task for the day and I try my best to make sure I don't go to bed till it's completed (this might not be the best practice healthwise but I’m just being honest). I’m open to better ideas. Until then this has given me the best results and I think that it will give you the same. This determination helps to ensure that what’s on your to-do list, for the most part, gets executed for the day and if there is any spoil overs it doesn't look bad at the end of the week.
BOOK IT BEFORE IT'S COMPLETED
For some people is their plate full for the reason why they’re not able to get certain things that they want to accomplish for others it’s just mere procrastination. For both types, booking an event forces you to now sit down and get it done. Knowing that you have a date where you will have to provide your presentation, display your product, provide your service, etc. you will be forced to sit down and deliver on time. This is a stressful process but, at times needed. In some cases, the end result at first may not be as good, but this method helps you to start giving it the attention needed to have you start to help you bring your idea into reality. Now all you have to do is keep the momentum going. Fine-tuning it and making it better as you reach out for more engagement opportunities to showcase your business. For some, continually applying pressure to book these events will help you to continue to work towards a craft as you know you have the responsibility of going out to provide your service, show your product, impaired people, and/or meet your goals.
REMEMBER THE IMPACT OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING
Putting forth work of any manner requires a lot of effort but has the greatest potential for reward. Keeping that in the forefront of the mind Helps fuel the drive. Remember that every person is put on this earth for a reason to be able to provide some substance to this world in some way shape form or fashion to oneself and to others. God has given each man talent and He wants you to nurture it for your gain and others to benefit as well. So remembering that what you’re doing has its ability to impact on the world no matter how trivial it is, needs to be at the forefront of your mind. It will help you to take the other step when you’re tired, when you’re afraid, when you just don’t know what the next step. It will help you to continue to move forward with surety. If God has put it in you he will see you through but you must have faith in the faith that he has in you. Whether the obstacle even if the obstacle is you.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV
These simple steps repeated over time has helped me to become a more insightful father, be more impactful in my community, has helped to grow a nonprofit organization tremendously, and has helped to establish two for-profit businesses. Simple steps repeated continually give you great game. I pray that these tools will be a blessing for you as it is for me.
