When looking at the basic needs of financial security and long term wealth building one should consider real estate whether for investing or personal use. I’m not telling you to be a mogul but you should consider the basic need of man and how simple real estate fits that. With the pandemic and at one point over 40 million Americans being unemployed we see that our norm can be changed at any moment and the question is if your world was turned upside down would you be able to give your family the basics. Shelter, food, clothing and water. When I say obtain real estate let’s remove the canvas of a condo in a sky scraper, a 2-3 family house (which is not a bad option in regards to investing), or even a house in the suburbs. Think country think homestead. When facing uncertainty no one wants to have debt on them for a long period of time. The fact is as long as your paying
a mortgage you don’t own the house and it can be taken from you.
Buying a home in a rural area provides:
Cheep and affordable home that can be paid off quickly than a conventional home (we’ve got over 8 acers for 100k 3 miles from the nearest town & 3 hrs. from where I was working at the time). The quicker out of debt means the quicker you have finance freedom and a better sense of security . Taxes at a fraction of city property tax which means it easier to manage once the mortgage is paid off.
Land for cultivating food. Utilizing the land, you have and canning can greatly reduce your food expense and provide you with food all year round if you work it right which provides an additional sense of security if time are hard.
There are rural lands with it’s own water source (well, spring, creek) that can provide your basic need of water for personal and agricultural use which is completely free. No utility expense, no water line being cut off if you can’t pay the bill
Even if you choose to get one as a vacation, weekend home or plan b home it should definitely be a type of home you should consider especially if your looking for security. Ultimately true security come for the Lord our God Jesus Christ (Jeremiah 33:6). With that being said he also provided wisdom to help us maneuver in this world.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. I pray you find these recommendations sound and wise not by early standards but heavenly. In God’s word we see his recommendation to count the cost (budgeting), Working diligently, and country living. Weather you look at Abraham, John the Baptist, and even Jesus Christ himself they all sought refuge in open uncongested living. Some for a short time periodically and some as their way of life. I pray these tips help you on your quest of financial security. Chew the watermelon and spit out the seeds. Though to me it’s a seedless watermelon I’m providing.
